The Ocean’s Plague

Today I am joined with Arron Cordell (Azzy) the lead singer the hot new hardcore/metal band “The Oceans Plague”, who has recently released a four track EP with plans to release a second and to record an album sometime next year.
NM: the band’s name is “The Ocean’s Plague” did you have any other name ideas before you chose that?
TOP: No not really we just had the idea of the two words, and we put them together, and we all agree that that was the best name to call ourselves.
NM: How long have you known each other and how did you all meet?
TOP: well I met Shaun through an ex-girlfriend and bonded with him a lot and before I knew it I was joining the band. The main members are me, Shaun and Rob. We have known each other for about a year. The newest member Aaron who was a friend of Robs and is now a friend of ours.
NM: when did you form the band and what inspired you to make music together?
TOP: the band was already formed by Rob and Shaun early 2008 and I joined late 2008. We are inspired by the bands listen to, and they inspired us to make the music we love and play it to people.
NM: Where have you performed and what are your favourite and least favourite venues?
TOP: we have performed in Chippenham, Calne and Swindon our favourite venues to play were “The Wheat Sheaf” in Calne and “Jax” in Chippenham because of the atmosphere.
NM: Which songs do you perform most frequently and do you ever play any covers?
TOP: The most frequent songs we play are off our old E.P entitled “The Beginning” but we tend to play newer stuff now. Some of our older songs have re written and have title changes. I think the most frequent played song is “slucket”. We have played covers in the past these are “Hit me with your best shot” by Pat Benatar, “stick stickly” by Attack Attack, Justin Timberlake’s “like I love you” and “I’m on a boat” by lonely island.
NM: Who writes your songs and what are the main themes or topics for most of your songs?
TOP: we all have an equal share in writing the songs music and lyrics but before I came along it was more Rob and Shaun who wrote the songs. Our songs are about quite a lot of bad things, but mainly about girls and bad people in life.
NM: What are your rehearsals generally like? Do you have a set time each week in which you practice or are rehearsals more spontaneous?
TOP: they’re fun and very important to us due to us all being one hundred percent committed to the band. We have a set time every Tuesday at 4:30 until 7 every week. When we have a gig coming up we tend to practice more often to practice and get ready for it.
NM: How can fans gain access to your music? Do you have a website with sample songs or a demo CD?
TOP: We have a four track E.P that they can get hold of threw a member of the band and we have a MySpace page so people can see when our next gig is or leave a comment. It’s always nice to get comments and we always reply. Our MySpace page is: www.myspace.com/theoceansplagueftw
