Ever find yourself stuck on ideas of where to go for a meal out? Then why not try the Wiltshire Yeoman, a family run business which is suitable for everybody. Situated in the Broadmead estate in Trowbridge, this traditional gastro-pub serves reasonably priced meals 6 days a week. With friendly staff and a warm atmosphere you will be more than happy with your choice to eat here. The pub holds a regular quiz night on a Sunday at 8.30pm; they have a male and female darts team and hold an annual trip to Newbury races. The pub is a great supporter of sports and recently has added a television to show the main football and rugby games etc.
I asked our mystery shopper and her partner what meals they had and their thoughts.
“To start the week on a Sunday I chose to have roast beef, the meat was succulent and delicious. The fresh vegetables were cooked to perfection and the potatoes were absolutely delectable. The Yorkshire pudding was light and fluffy and the gravy complemented the overall taste well. The entire course was thoroughly enjoyed, the overall taste was mouth-watering and the portion size generous.
My partner who is vegetarian had the vegetable lasagne with chips. The Lasagne was homemade and the top had a golden crisp that melted as soon as the fork went in. It revealed a rich creamy layer of vegetables which were just al denté. The mixture of flavours was fantastic, he could taste courgettes, aubergine, peppers and many, many more. The chips were just right, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.”
The ‘specials’ board offers more range and there is often a homemade curry or pasta of the week available. A new addition to the pub is their burger menu which has astonishing varied choice including chilli burgers and huge breakfast baps sufficient to fill even the hungriest person. Everything on the burger menu is less than five pounds. For those for whom dieting is not an issue, the sweet board is changed regularly and has a varied choice.
